Preparation and application of lime-cement mortar
Lime-cement mortar is also called complex solution. This is due to the fact that it consists of two binding components: portland cement and lime.
These solutions can be used both indoors and outdoors for plastering of stone, concrete and wood structures or for the construction of masonry above-ground parts of the building.
Lime-cement solution has certain advantages, namely:
lime-cement mortar is cheaper compared to the cement-sand mortar because of the economy and the use of cement binder cheaper - hydraulic lime;
adding lime-sand mortar - Portland, get more strength solution that quickly grasp;
since lime is a natural plasticizer, the additive lime in thin cement-sand mortar leads to the achievement of the required ductility for ease of use;
with the addition of lime in mortar increases adhesion of the solution with the stone (adhesion).
It should be noted that in most cases for the preparation of compound solution used Portland cement M400.
Methods for preparation of lime-cement mortar
There are three basic ways to prepare lime-cement mortar:
If lime is used as a ready test, the pre-cooked dry mixture of sand and cement is added to the milk of lime (water with lime putty). The addition of the dry part is made up until when mixing the solution is not obtained the desired consistency.
When applying powdered lime, production solution produced in the usual manner: Mix all the ingredients in a dry state, and then the necessary quantity of water mixable.
When using lime in the blended cement testovidnom state a half measures for mixing sand and lime paste and blended with the other half of sand. Then connect the two mixtures, and shuts the required amount of water.
The first and second methods are more convenient compared to the third method.
General recommendations
Lime for lime-cement mortar is applied only quicklime. If you have available quicklime, then long before the extinction of the work make it using more water (in your area near the erected object can perform a pit for slaking or equipped with a special container for this operation).
As the quality of the solution depends on the quality of lime, then because of its different properties we recommend that you cook in a small number of trial batches and empirically determine their quality (for example, a small area of plaster masonry).
